DescriptionThe Mediterranean destination of Le Cap d’Agde is a land of volcanoes. There are many geological sites where you can find the famous "black rock”. The black sand on Grand Conque beach,
Mont Saint Loup and the basalt Caux and Nizas Causses make this a unique and intriguing area.
Many works of art and churches, particularly the churches of Agde and Saint-Thibéry, have been carved out of this basalt and volcanic rock.
Mont Saint Loup is the youngest volcano above sea level in the Puys d’Auvergne chain. Its eruption (around 750 000 years ago), and those
of other undersea volcanoes in the chain, played a large role in the formation of the Le Cap d’Agde landscape. Not accessible by car.
