RESERVE NATURELLE DU BAGNAS
Ornithologists will be in seventh heaven in this collection of lagoons, marshes, wetlands and cultivated land. It’s a perfect place to go bird-watching! 150 species of birds live side by side in this vast humid zone spanning 561 hectares between Agde and Marseillan. The area is bisected east-west by the Canal du Midi, and was originally the vast delta area of the river Hérault. Over the years it’s been filled in by alluvia and has been diluted by fresh water from the Canal du Midi. Delicate and luminous reeds cover the area’s coastal lowlands, attracting a wealth of birds. A free observation point is situated on the D 51 road between Marseillan-Plage and Marseillan-village.
