DOMAINE DE NIZAS
The domain de Nizas was created in 1998 by John Goelet, American and descendent of a family of wine traders of the Bordelais region. True visionary in the wine world, John Goelet had the ambition to create great wines on terroirs of exception. Thus several regions of the New and Ancient World drew his attention since the beginning of the 1970s: in California, Napa Valley: birth of Clos du Val. In Australia, Victoria and Tasmania: birth of Taltarni and Clover Hill. In France, he spotted the Languedoc and more precisely the terroir situated between Caux, Nizas and Pézenas. The vineyard is lsituated on heights, laid in plateaus, so the vines benefit from the north winds that blow from the mountains towards the sea and of the Mediterranean sun 320 days a year. One of the assets of this terroir is the diversity of soils. Clay-limestone, basalt or Villafranchian (pliocene) soils, all these types of soils are invaluable to create quality wines.
