ProgramSince its foundation,The Escolo Daï Sarret, creator of the Muséo Agatenc, affiliated with the Félibriges Provinçaux has set itself a goal : Preservate the traditional costumes and the local language (Occitan dialect). By Offering this summer a programming around contemporary Occitan music, the Agathois Museum has wished to continue the enhancement of our regional language through the current musical creations drawing from a traditional repertoire.

Marie Coumes and Laurent Cavalié go meet the former activists of the Wine Action Committee. Those who fought from the 1960s until the tragic demonstration in Montredon-des-Corbières in March 76. These vinegrowers, which the entire left-wing press described as reactionary and the right-wing one as dangerous revolutionary, simply expressed in their time a fierce will to live and work in the country. Thus they expressed a great dignity to be "from somewhere”, without chauvinism and far from any regionalism. The Occitan poetry of the time closely followed the events, poets even took part in it and found a path of struggle poetry that we wish to explore and cross with the words of these old activists.

‘’Hum’’ • World d’aqui

Created in 2009 in the Hérault, the group HUM Offers a unique experience: an Occitan singer-clarinetist of Belgian origin, a Cevenol percussionist passionated with oriental music, a guitarist from the north divided between Rock music and Indian raga, gathered first in trio, around the texts of the Occitan poet Joan Yves Roier. In 2011 HUM becomes a quartet with the arrival of an Bass player who shows himself to be a fan of world music, strengthening the musical identity of the group, which wants to be open to all influences. The compositions of HUM, classified in world music also find their place in contemporary music and jazz Inspired by traditional and/or popular music, ethnic or contemporary music, of Mediterranean or extra-European origin. The choice of Occitan, a current language but rich in a very ancient culture, proved to be the most relevant to express this musical journey born in Languedoc and crossing borders...

‘’Belugueta’’ • Progressive polyphony

« Marchas sus la terra per davant son los aujols un pé dins cada piada per t’enganar pas inocent... ». Belugueta walks in the footsteps of a language from here and there: between their old and their children, in the light of a vigil of songs, in the detours of the streets of Toulouse, picking apples and chestnuts
From these snippets of music they have woven «things to say», a poem, a psalm, a narrative, a soft music, a little loud through this «patois» that inspires them, this famous Occitan language, oral, between decline and survival. BELUGUETA puts his words into songs and percussions. There is a will in them to express themselves through something new and old at the same time, in order to nourish in their turn their traditions, their popular cultures; for them a tradition is sown, grows, gets cultivated and is reinvented.

‘’Lo Barrut’’ • Occitan Polyphony

Barrut is a beast made up of three women and four men who do polyphony and who hit very hard on drums. A beast made of sound, wild, sometimes weeping, roars often, a beast that grew up in the scrubland of Montpellier and whose insatiable appetite has led it to drink at the table of many foreigners, who are no longer so once they agreed to feed its prodigious stomach. If the animal eats and drinks this much, it is to be able to radiate the fire that makes it sing since that’s what keeps it alive. The Beast of Barrut is a poetic animal. It sings in its native language, Occitan. Poems written by Leo Cordes, Louisa Paulin, troubadours of the twentieth century, or by the beast itself.

‘’Sirventés’’ • Rabid songs in OC Country

Present from the very beginning of the Trobar (the poetry of the troubadours), the Sirventés is of protestant style: : he sharply describes the violence of his century, the stupidity of the powerful and the fleeting human feelings. At the cliché reducing the troubadour to a grieving lover in his ivory tower, the Sirventés contrasts the image of a poet-musician who brocades the princes, mocks the Church, taken with his contemporaries in torments and war.
The three musicians chose to respect the original melodies recorded at the end of the 13th century by the last troubadours by developing them or taking inspiration from them. They use their respective experiences, accumulated during reconciliations - utopian or proven - between oriental and western music, popular and accademical, ancient and contemporary, to explore all the potential of the medieval Occitan monody. Customary of digression and improvisation, they also offer a courteous, immoderate and especially unexpected response to those who know, like our troubadours, what music and poetry can do to alleviate the absurdity of the world.
