Formed during a volcanic eruption, 750,000 years ago, the mount is now a protected natural area where no car traffic is allowed. With a height of 113 metres, it offers an exceptional view of the region :
To the south, there is a superb panorama of Le Cap d'Agde.
Two buildings stand on the mount : a semaphore and a crenellated tower called "Tour des Anglais" (Tower of the English). With the Brescou Fort, they are part of the old coast guard defences.
For a simple walk it is advisable to follow the footpath which encircles the whole mount. It goes through a lush environment of mediterranean plants (pine woods, maquis of evergreen oak, almond trees...), perfumed with garrigue.
