Do you want to experience a true maritime atmosphere all year round? The coming and going of fishing boats between the jetties, fish auctions, boatyards…and, of course, the beaches! Discover the Grau d’Agde, a charming fishing village. Peaceful and welcoming, for a day or a stay, this port is really worth the detour!
Take a walk in the Grau d’Agde
This traditional fishing village can be found a short distance from the town of Agde, next to the Mediterranean, on the left bank of the River Hérault. Its important port activity in the past can be naturally explained by its geographical situation. At the mouth of the Hérault, the delta was the ideal place for safe anchorage of trading boats and for the development of the fishing industry.
Choose the small road which snakes along the river to reach the Grau d’Agde. Just make sure you take your time to appreciate the quality of the environment. By foot or by bike, you can enjoy this pleasant excursion in complete safety on the cycle path. During the summer season, a water taxi service can take you from La Tamarissière to Le Grau d’Agde and back.
A typical, lively village
The small fishing port of the Grau d’Agde grew particularly during the first half of the 20th century. Between tradition and modernity, the village has since found its balance. It conserves its authenticity and combines its customs and traditional fishing activities with a warm welcome and events. Fisherman's festival, Festival of the sea, Festival of the “pointu” (spiny dye murex sea snails)...without a doubt, the sailors know how to receive guests! With beaches, shops, services and a daily market during the summer, you will easily find what you are looking for as you enjoy the colourful, family atmosphere.
