240 km long, this canal built in the XVIIth century joins Toulouse to Sète and, via the Garonne, the Atlantic to the Mediterranean.
Classed as World Heritage by UNESCO, the Canal du Midi, work of Béziers-born Pierre-Paul Riquet, this green ribbon with its towpaths lined with three hundred year old trees enchants adepts of river tourism, but also lovers of the great outdoors (walking, jogging, canoe, fishing...).
It is also a point of departure for cruises, with a vast choice of services : boat hire (self drive) or mini-cruises in passenger boats, organised to the Etang de Thau or Béziers (half-day or day), to reach a timeless world of green and restful landscapes.
